Race Report - NorCal #1 : Stella Sisneros

The first High School NorCal race had finally arrived and the anticipation could subside at last. Coming into this race I was feeling as confident as I have ever been. Relying on my training kept my nerves at rest and my composure at an all time high. Which was nice even though I knew this was my first year racing Varsity. I rode the new Fort Ord course the day prior to the race and absolutely loved it. I was surprised with how well the conditions were and was more excited than anything to race this fast, full of flow type of track.

Race day was here and the weather and everything was perfect. I waited in the second row of varsity girls and gauged my competition. With the neutral start in the back of my mind I was not as nervous as I thought I would be when I took off. The countdown was over and the fast field of about 20 all clipped in simultaneously. It got bunched up right away with the neutral start and a lot of girls were clipping handling bars with each other causing them to get squirley.

Once the race marshal moved off the rode to signal the end of the neutral zone, everyone sprinted to get a good position into the single track. I fought for third wheel before getting onto the course and made sure to hold my position. I got into a good train of about 6 girls right away and stuck with them. We stayed behind the leader up until the second lap before we surged and separated each other from a couple riders. I kept myself behind a wheel and never lead this group. The fourth and final lap came around and thats when things picked up. Two of the girls who were in the group got tangled up with each other missing the attack from the leader and I avoided it and sprinted to catch up. There were three girls in front of me that I still could see and focused on catching them.

I sprinted and never let up, I caught the girl in third who was close to the finish so I gave it all I could to that finish line. She was close behind me and I knew I was not going to catch second place. I crossed the finish line in third place which was very hard fought. Finishing this race I was super happy and thankful this race went as well as it did.

Great Job to all that raced and to Sammy on her fourth place finish in JV as well as Daniel who finished fifth in JV! Awesome Job with the teams first place finish! Lastly, Thanks so much to my Vacaville Composite family for your endless support and my Scott Development fam for giving me the exceptional necessities to race! I am really excited for NorCal race #2!
